Shiatsu and Ohashiatsu.... What's the difference?

Shiatsu is the Japanese equivalent of acupressure. It focuses strictly on the pressing of acupuncture points and the opening of the energy channels in the body.
Ohashiatsu is a form of shiatsu that Ohashi developed after his study with many healers in the orient and he decided to change it to make it more available and, acceptable to westerners. He was also very versed in psychology and formed many connections between shiatsu and forms of psychosis mainly through finding the connections between stretching, emotional, and lifestyle feedback.
The benefits of Ohashiatsu are that it will open you to a feeling of relaxed vigor and emotional stability. Through shiatsu we'll come to relax into the hara and truthfully come to know ourselves!

Hara? how does this help me relax?

In Japanese martial arts and healing practice the hara is of extreme importance!
It is believed that your entire spirit, and being is in your hara. (the reason for Samurai's harakiri, to cut out the hara)
A main belief in shiatsu is that the emotions of our body are not only held in our head and heart, but in the entire body. This is a view that our entire nervous system houses memory and emotions in all our nerves, central and peripheral. Our primal emotions are said to be in the enteric brain. (which is surprisingly located in the hara)This "brain" is the nervous dense tissue surrounding your intestines. Many people say that centering your awareness here helps you get back to that primal thought. Literally back to your gut instinct. The work of ohashiatsu is founded on the sensitivity of the hara and the paths of nerves around the body to bring deep relaxation and contentment in the body.
The result is an extremely profound sense of relaxation and a much clearer mind!
